Things have been a hectic at my little grocery store this week as people are snapping up the cranberry sauce, green beans and stuffing getting ready for the Christmas feast. Fortunately I have been able to get away long enough to get my Christmas shopping done. I can't wait to see my two granddaughters tear into their gifts Christmas morning. Roy's article today has some VERY interesting facts about how messed up the health care system is in America. He is asking for your help and has prepared a letter that you can e-mail to your friends. OUR BROKEN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

The staggering numbers of uninsured people, including children, in this country are well-documented. It's a bit harder, and takes a bit more research, to put together a picture of how people who have health insurance are doing. But once you put those pieces together you begin to see that our health care system is broken even for those with insurance.
For example:
- 34% of adults under 65 who have health insurance have skimped on medical treatments because of the costs.
- 28% of adults were unable to pay for some kind of medical care in the past year. That number rises to 33% for adults under 65, demonstrating that Medicare does much to protect the elderly from skyrocketing costs.
- More than one in five Americans currently have an overdue medical bill.
- Almost three in ten estimate paying more than $1,000 in out-of-pocket medical expenses, on top of their premiums, in the past year.
- 62% of those struggling to pay medical bills have health insurance.
What conclusions do you draw when you hear statistics like this? When I look at the numbers on this page, I see a system that is broken. I see a country that has put its faith in the market and trusted big business to literally care for its citizens - and (are we surprised?) has been grievously disappointed.

LAUGHTER, THE BEST MEDICINE
A postal worker, who's job was to sort undeliverable mail, found and opened a letter addressed to God.
Dear God,
I am a 77 year old widow woman on a fixed income. I have invited some of my friends from the senior citizens center, over for a dinner party on the last day of the month. We rarely ever get to enjoy a social gathering of this type and I thought it would be a real blessing. This morning, my purse was stolen and it had my last $100 dollars in it. Now I don't have any money to buy the food for my dinner party. I don't know what I am going to do. Everybody is so looking forward to the gathering that I just hate to have to cancel. Please help, Edna
The postal worker felt sorry for the lady and took up a collection from his fellow postal employs. He was able to raise $96 which he sent to the lady. The next month he found another letter from the same little lady, again addressed to God
Dear God,
Thank you so much for sending the money for my dinner party. We had such a grand time! We laughed and prayed and felt like we were young again. It was such a blessing! Edna
P.S. There was $4.00 missing from the envelope you sent, I think that bunch of thieves at the Post Office took it.
