Osteoporosis and Osteoporosis Treatment

Osteoporosis is a disease that takes away a persons ability to enjoy life. It is a situation, in the body, where you lose the minerals and as a result the bones become brittle. Have you ever heard of some elderly person falling and breaking their hip? We'll in most cases what really happened was they broke their hip and fell. Their bones had weakened so much that when they turned wrong the hip bone, not being able to support the weight, breaks and they hit the floor just as if they had been shot.

Some people shrink with age while others don't. Why is that? Some people form bone spurs and kidney stones while others don't. Why is that? When we take in acid forming foods and beverages, our body dumps calcium, magnesium, and potassium, as well as other alkaline minerals, from our bones and tissue into the blood stream in order to keep the blood pH balanced. Bone spurs, kidney stones and osteoporosis are the result of this phenomenon. The acid forming foods are colas, sugary foods, processed foods, preservatives, and fake foods like margarine and saturated fats. Synthetic drugs, those prescribed by the medical profession are acid forming. When you eat these kinds of foods or take those drugs you become more acid and loose more bone mass. Its important to stop eating those foods and start taking specific, all natural, supplements that will allow your body to build bone naturally.

Your bones not only support your structure they also enable your body to produce white blood cells, fight infection and protect you against cancer. There are specific vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that are required, from your diet, to maintain healthy bones. Unfortunately, the American diet is terrible deficient and as a result we are losing bone faster than our bodies can repair them. Supporting bone health is easier than you might think. By supplementing your diet with the nutrients listed below you can stop and even reverse osteoporosis.

Vitamin A (the beta-carotene portion) promotes healthy bone growth as well as healthy vision, glands, hair, skin and aids in fighting infection.

Vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium and is generally recommended for patients diagnosed with Osteoporosis. Getting at least 30 minutes of direct sunshine on the skin is the best source of Vitamin D. Since that is not always possible you should supplement.

Vitamin E is also necessary for a strong skeletal system. It's a great antioxidant that helps maintain skin, collagen, eye, nerve and micro-vascular health.

Vitamin B including B1, B2, B3, Pantothenic Acid B6 and B12 are all necessary to maintain good overall health including strong bones.

Biotin is an essential cofactor for enzymes. It aids in the synthesis of hormones and cholesterol, promotes healthy growth of skin, hair, nerves, bone marrow and oil glands.

Vitamin C promotes the body's ability to build strong bones, facilitates iron absorption and is a strong antioxidant. It has been linked to reducing the risk of arthritis, asthma, cancer and many other degenerative diseases.

Ipriflavone is a natural isoflavone from soy that has been shown to improve bone health and bone mass retention. It aids in restoring bone mass that has been lost; improves the retention of calcium; promotes the formation of osteoblasts (new bone cells); reduces or stops the activity of osteoclasts (bone-destroying cells); and has been tested and proven for its safety and effectiveness. Researchers published results of tests in 1992 that showed that just 600 mg per day will increase bone mass as much as 9% in just 3 to 9 months.

Calcium is the major component of bones and teeth. It has been linked with reduced risk of osteoporosis and hypertension.

Magnesium contributes to bone health and to the biochemical reaction of 300 enzymes and ATP. The combination of calcium and magnesium help to prevent and reverse osteoporosis or bone loss.

Phosphorus works with calcium to form the structure of bones and teeth. It also produces energy and is necessary for growth, healthy kidney function, and muscle and nerve impulses.

Ortic Acid is valuable in activating the transport of minerals and trace minerals across cell membranes. This makes the minerals bioavailable. This is a very important function for those who have Osteoporosis or other degenerative and immune support diseases, many of which require extra supplementation of minerals.

Copper promotes iron, cholesterol and lipid metabolism, bone growth, skin elasticity, collagen and melanin pigmentation, synthesis of connective tissue, maintenance of the heart muscle, immune and central nervous system function.

Manganese is an important antioxidant nutrient that aids in synthesis of carbohydrates, fats, cholesterol and enzymes. It promotes reproductive organ health, bone and connective tissue formation.

Zinc, copper and manganese work together to promote the development of bone and sex organs. They are cofactors with SOD to protect against cancer and heart disease.

Boron supports overall bone health and is used in supplements recommended for Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis. It promotes the proper metabolism of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Boron also supports brain, hormone and cell membrane functions.

Silicon is the second most abundant element on the planet. It's a trace mineral that is very important for maintaining health. It promotes the formation of the enzyme prolyhydroxylase, which is essential in the formation of collagen for bone formation and elastin for cartilage and connective tissue formation. Silicon works in conjunction with MSM to aid in the maintenance of skin, hair and nails. Dr. Edith Carlisle conducted studies at UCLA in the 1070s that indicated that silica is needed for normal bone development and that without it growth and skeletal development would not be optimal.

Chromium and Vanadium work together to improve bone and tooth development and improves hormone production.

Strontium supports bone formation and preliminary evidence suggest that women with osteoporosis may have reduced absorption of this trace mineral. Some health care practitioners have recommended up to 3 mg per day for bone health.

Kelp is the most bioavailable substance that contains over 50 trace minerals and these minerals are important in bone development.

DHEA is the most abundant steroid found in the blood stream and it is primarily produced by the adrenal glands. Your body produces less of it as you age. DHEA is considered an anti-aging supplement and is frequently taken for Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Diabetes, Heart Disease and other diseases related to aging and the immune system.

ALFALFA POWER CAPSULES in a 33:1 concentrate is a rich source of all minerals, in a totally digestible form, providing over 65 nutrients and over 100 phytonutrients. Acids in the body leach alkaline minerals from the bone and cells. Alfalfa helps keep the body alkaline so you can keep those important minerals.

Blue Green Algae are whole foods that are extremely bioavailable, nutrient rich and alkaline forming in the body. It is the oldest living organism on earth.

In addition to these vitamins, minerals and whole foods you should get a reasonable amount of Essential Fatty Acids. Omega 3 and 6 are considered the best for human consumption. They are an essential component of cell membranes and healthy functioning of the cellular structure. Without the Essential Fatty Acids the cell membrane will get stiff preventing fluids and nutrients from entering. The body cannot make them so they must be consumed. Borage is one of the best forms of EFA's with a 10% GLA, (Gamma Linolenic Acid, and Omega 6) content. DHA/EPA are Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids that are highly recommended as a way to supplement your diet.

As you can see there are many nutrients that play a roll in building and maintaining bone mass. The farming soils in America have been depleted of most of these minerals for over 30 years. US Senate document 364 proves this to be true and it was written in 1936. The medical profession and the pharmaceutical industry refuse to do anything about it because it will prevent disease, which would cut into their cash flow.

For those who have already lost some of your bone mineral density it is highly recommended that you go ahead and plan to start a supplement program with as many of these nutrients as possible. There was once a belief that you could not stop, much less reverse, bone loss. Today more and more studies are proving that in countries where they get these minerals Osteoporosis is practically unheard of and those who supplement, with these nutrients, will reverse bone loss.

The way our food is prepared and processed it is practically impossible to eat enough to get the daily amount necessary to prevent some bone loss. Just to give you an example, you would have to eat 15 pounds of broccoli and 20 pounds of spinach every day to get the daily requirement of calcium. If you have bone spurs, kidney stones, receding gums or osteoarthritis then remember, these are signs that you are losing bone. If you have lost a half-inch in height you should have your doctor do a bone density test so you can take the necessary steps to improve the health of your bones. Do it naturally and stay away from synthetic drugs.
